Central Goldfields Shire Council welcomed two State Government funding announcements last week.
The Shire will host a Skate and Scooter Festival & Youth Market thanks to $2,000 in funding as part of the inaugural Victorian Youth Week.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said he was delighted with the news the Victorian Government is providing funding for our young people.
“We have an active group of youth in the Central Goldfields Shire and this funding will mean we can deliver an event that will showcase their skills and talents.
“Our Victorian Youth Week event will take the form of a Skate and Scooter Festival to be held on Sunday 22 April from 12noon to 4pm.
“To be held at the Maryborough Skate Park the day will include a Skate and Scooter competition as well as live music, stall holders, BBQ and much more.
“We hope to see as many young people there as possible.”
The State Government also announced a $22.1 million expansion of the state-wide Supported Playgroup program. The funding will see the eligibility criteria widened so that the program is accessible to more families.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said Council was thrilled with the news the Victorian Government is providing a funding boost for the Supported Playgroups program.
“The funding is welcome news for our Shire and means more local families can access this valuable service.
“12% of local families are experiencing high levels of stress so we’ll be in a position to be able to support these families further.
“The Supported Playgroup program plays an important role in giving families the vital support they need to raise healthy, happy kids so that they get the best start in life.
“It also connects vulnerable families to community services such as Maternal and Child Health and kindergarten.”
