The 2017 RACV Energy Breakthrough has been hailed a success – with a record number of both participants and spectators enjoying this year’s event.
Central Goldfields Shire Council Interim Administrator Mark Davies said it was estimated that more than 12,000 people visited Maryborough across the four day event which included more than 8,000 participants.
“It was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our Shire to thousands of visitors and we’re expecting that the event would have injected close to $5 million into the local economy.”
RACV Energy Breakthrough Local Planning Coordinator, Martin Mark said the event would not have been possible without the support of the local Central Goldfields Shire community.
“There were more than six hundred volunteers who contributed a significant amount of time and effort towards the event in 2017. The event could not have been the success that it was, let alone even exist financially, without the assistance of these volunteers.”
“The large number of entries places a lot of stress upon our volunteer base, but community groups and numerous individuals from the community volunteering their services meant the event was a huge success”.
“In talking to several traders after the event they indicated that this year had been fantastic for business, the best they had experienced in the event’s long history.”
