Central Goldfields Shire is currently carrying out maintenance on our rural roads.
Unsealed road shoulder grading on the sealed road network is an important element of preventative maintenance. The unsealed shoulders are typically made from the same material as unsealed roads.
Over time, not unlike unsealed roads, the shoulders need regulating back up to the seal, this assists in keeping the sealed edges together and avoid seal edge repairs.
Council owns and operates a specialised road shoulder grader that regulates the unsealed shoulder in a single pass. This is cost effective, as well as being preventative, therefore avoiding extensive edge of seal repairs.
Unsealed roads as well as shoulder maintenance is best achieved when there is moisture in the road pavement. Council takes advantage of the cooler months and is busy grading both sealed road shoulders and unsealed roads.
Unsealed road shoulders on the sealed network that have recently been completed include:
- Old School Road
- Wareek – Bung Bung Road
- Gordon Road
- Wareek Home Bush Road
- Bung Bong Longs Road
- Red Lion Road
- Mt Cameron Road
- Cotswold Road
- Smeaton Road
