Central Goldfields Shire’s Youth Engage! Program, Central Goldfields Art Gallery and Maryborough Regional Library are set to present a jam-packed School Holiday Program.
Offering some fantastic activities, the program of events kick off on Tuesday 25 September and will run through to Wednesday 3 October. The Program caters for toddlers to 18 year olds.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey is encouraging our youngest residents to take full advantage of the upcoming school holiday program of events.
“We are offering a wonderful selection of events and activities these school holidays for young people of all ages.
“I really encourage all of the Shire’s youth to participate in the activities and events on offer. It is a great way to meet new friends, socialise and see what Central Goldfields Shire has to offer.
“Many of the events are free of charge, or at minimal cost, and are a great way to make the most of these school holidays.”
The Maryborough Regional Library will host the following events:
- Sand Art session. No bookings required.
- Animal Encounter

The Central Goldfields Art Gallery will host three workshops, ranging from animals to landscape drawing.
- Bush Stories! - for five to eight year olds
Explore the colourful landscape paintings by Jeff Makin in the art gallery with gallery staff. Listen to a story set in the Australian bush then paint your own ending for the story. At the end of the session, share your story and painting with others in the workshop & take your creation home.
- Active Art! - for five to eight year olds
Explore the landscape paintings by Jeff Makin with Helen Kaptein, Education Officer. Follow Helen by making the shapes of some of the animals in the bush with your bodies led by Helen! Stand on one leg like an ibis, stretch out like a stumpy crocodile and stretch out like a dragonfly! Then paint your own landscape in the gallery workshop.
- En Plein Air/Drawing outside - for nine to 12 year olds
Explore the landscape paintings by Jeff Makin with the Education Officer, then walk to the nearby Phillips Botanical Gardens and sketch ‘en plein air’ (outside) in the landscape. Then, return to the gallery with your sketch and create your own painting based on what you’ve drawn.
Maximum of 8 children. Parents/carers encouraged to accompany their children and draw too! Arrive and depart from the art gallery.

The Central Goldfields Shire Youth Engage! School Holiday Program will feature a junior (11 to 15 year old) and senior (15 to 18 year old) program:
Senior Program (15 to 18 year olds)
Morning Tea at the Sweet Plate - Tuesday 2 October, 11am to 4pm
Enjoy a simple morning tea outing with a touch of Vintage at The Sweet Plate Tea room and Coffee Shop in Alma Street next to Woolworths. We will meet at the Engage! Youth Space and walk down for light refreshments and catch up with each other. Leaving the Engage! Youth Space at 11am and returning to the Engage! Youth Space.

Hang out at the Engage! Youth Space - Wednesday 3 October, 11am to 4pm
Come hang out with friends, make homemade pizza and general catch up with access to the computers and free Wi-Fi.

Youth Space Drop in Day - Thursday 4 October, 11am to 4pm
Engage! Youth Space will be open for youth between the ages of 12-25 and open to all youth workers wanting to come along and have a look at our youth space.
We will still be running craft activities and fun throughout the day so pop in and have a look.

Junior Program (11 to 15 year olds)
PJ Day - Tuesday 25 September, 11am to 4pm
As requested we are having our own pyjama party at the Engage! Youth Space that will include fun activities such as making dream catchers, PJ photo both and karaoke, Come along for some fun in your PJs. Entry is free and bookings are not required.
Creative Canvas with splatter paint effects - Wednesday 26 September, 11am to 4pm
Create your very own wall art in black or white and with a splatter paint effects. Supplies will be included in this activity, held at the Engage! Youth Space, with small art projects throughout the day. Entry is free and bookings are not required.
Engage! Fashion Projects - Thursday 27 September, 11am to 4pm
A day filled with fashion ideas and projects including making fashion boards, recycled T-shirt bracelets, and fabric scrap projects at the Engage! Youth Space. A bit of creative fun for everyone. Entry is free and bookings are not required.
