MATERNAL AND CHILD HEALTH

The service is staffed by Maternal and Child Health nurses who are qualified, registered general nurses and midwives with special training in maternal and child health nursing.

The Maternal and Child Health Service is provided free to all residents with new babies and young children. 

 

 

Mission Statement

  • To engage all families in Victoria with children from birth to school age; by taking into account their strengths and vulnerabilities.
  • To provide contact and ongoing primary health care in order to improve their health, development and well being.

 

The Maternal and Child Health Service offers:

  • Universal access for all children from birth to school age
  • A focus on prevention, promotion, early detection and intervention of health and wellbeing concerns of children
  • Information and screening tests for growth and development including 4 year old pre school assessment as required by Federal Government and Centre Link
  • Immunisation information, programs and service for children and adults
  • Advice on infant feeding and family nutrition
  • Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Service for families who require extra support
  • Home visits to families when required
  • New Parents Group.

 

Locations

The Maternal and Child Health Services are offered from two centres within the Central Goldfields Shire. Enhanced Maternal & Child Health Program is offered on a needs base through the Maternal & Child Health service. Referrals to Allied Health Agencies are made by MCH nurses as needed. These referrals may include Speech Therapy, Early Intervention, Audiology, General Practitioners. All sessions need to be made by apppinment by calling 5461 1154. Centre locations are:

When you come to the centre please bring:

  • Child Health Record Book
  • Change of nappy and clothes for baby/toddler
  • Cloth nappy/bunny rug to lay baby/child on at the centre

Child Care Services

The service provides high quality, long day care five days per week in a purpose built, registered and licensed premises for children 0-6 years The centre is staffed by qualified and experienced Early Childhood workers.

Hours: 6.45am to 5.45pm, Monday to Friday with lunch and snacks provided.

 

Family Care Day, 5461 5047

Provides home based child care in the home of carefully selected accredited registered child care providers. Care can be full or part time. Weekend, overnight and respite care is provided through Family Day Care in emergency circumstances. Child Care benefit and Child Care rebate are available through Centre Link.

 

Toy Library

A member run group, the library stocks an array of toys which are both educational and play toys suitable for children aged from six months to six years. It is located a the rear of Child Care Centre.

Hours:  Thursday 11.15am to 12.30pm; and Saturday 11am to 12 noon.
