ART CENTRAL

A community based arts project

And so it has come to this - follow this link for the wrap up report from the Art Central team Art Central 2012-2015 Artist Report.

Art Central aims to:

The project is working in partnership with the local community, representatives from the education, health, sport and business sectors. By building partnerships, and involving community leaders, the project aims to support the development and delivery of sustainable cultural opportunities in Central Goldfields Shire.

The project is a partnership with the Cultural Development Network and is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, the Commonwealth arts funding agency, through its Creative Communities Partnerships Initiative fund.

Art Central Team

Artists Geoff Bonney, Berni Janssen and Forest Keegel are leading this exciting project. They bring a range of creative and community development skills to the shire. Geoff and Forest are visual artists; and Berni is a poet, writer and spoken word artist. Mandy Grinblat is the Art Central Project Manager.

Art Central HQ

The shop at 172 High Street, Maryborough has been transformed into a ‘pop up’ community arts space and will serve as Art Central’s home base for as long as it is available. With a visual arts studio, workshop and exhibition spaces, the shop promises to be a hive of creative activity and opportunity for local residents. Shop opening hours and details of all Art Central activities will be posted on Go Goldfields Facebook page.

Arts participation

Communities that embrace creative expression and cultural activity are richer, stronger and better able to deal with social challenges.

Participation in the arts delivers many benefits including skills development, increased self esteem and confidence, and the ability to work in teams. Young people who take part in the arts do better in school and are more likely to be involved in other community activities. The arts are suitable for people of all ages - it’s fun and a great way to meet new people.

The arts program will reflect community interests and the artists’ broad experience. Workshops, exhibitions and performances, including the visual arts, theatre, writing, poetry and voice will be on offer at various places around the shire. Participation is free and no previous arts experience is necessary.
